Some of us are somewhat at the end of quarantine, and then there are others who are still shut in. Running out of ideas? How about some homemade play dough with just a few items that can be found around your house!
Main Ingredients:
- Flour
- Salt
- Cream of Tartar
- Canola Oil
- Food Coloring
These are all ingredients that can be found conveniently at Walmart and then can conveniently be found right in your own home. Be sure to use each of these ingredients because they each are a key in getting the playdough just right! For example:
- The Flour and Water make up the base of the playdough.
- The Oil makes the flour and water combination less sticky.
- The Cream of Tartar makes the playdough moldable and stretchy without it crumbling and falling apart right in your hands.
- Salt preserves the playdough so your kids can play with it any time.
- The Food coloring of course adds the coloring and it’s more fun when you use multiple colors.
You’ll need the following:
- ½ cup of boiling water
- ½ cup of flour
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- ¼ cup of salt
- 1.5 teaspoon of canola oil
- 4-5 drops of food coloring
Instructions:
- Put some hot water on to boil. Once boiling add the 4-5 drops of food coloring.
- While both are boiling combine the dry ingredients in a separate bowl (the ½ cup of flour, 1 teaspoon of cream of tartar, ¼ cup of salt, and the 1.5 teaspoon of canola oil) and stir.
- Pour in the mix of food coloring and water.
- Continue mixing until the playdough forms a ball and keep kneading it until it is not sticky.
- If it still feels sticky, continue adding flour until it is not.
It can get a little messy with the little ones but it is so fun! We had a blast doing this. The girls wanted to do a marble colored playdough.
There are so many other crafty things you can do with again, a lot of items found around the house that you probably use anyway. Times are rough right now, but make the most of it and get crafty and creative right at home. It will get better! So tell us, if you are still at home what are some at home activities you are doing with your children to keep them occupied?

My mom used to make this all the time when I was a kid. She even baked them and they came out to be some Christmas ornaments or something like that this is a fun activity.

I love how people get creative during the quarantine period! I also love how parents keep things fun for their kids during this time.

Engaging children with recipes is a really good idea to make them 100% involved in the kitchen and push them to eat what they prepare. Empower them.

Your home made play dough looks way more fun than the play dough I used to make with my mom as a kid. We never added color to ours and that makes a huge difference.
amberl.hurley says
Awww neither did I as a kid! Way more fun now
